Colton Akridge

Lead Guitar

Colton's is the clichéd story of a little kid who listened to Nirvana's album "Nevermind" and had his whole world changed. That's when he realized you don't have to be Jimi Hendrix to make great music.

Colt started learning to play guitar in high school, but didn't join a band until he borrowed his friend’s mom’s bass in order to play in the band, Chemical X. After that project he switched back to guitar to join The Dead Rose Boys, then later on, Poi Family Picnic. Since then he has been in many other local bands, but he's not just a musician, he's a History Teacher.

All throughout Colts various projects, he somehow managed to squeeze in a Masters Degree in History from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. His dedication to learning isn't lost on his music, however, as he studies all sorts of music from all over the globe. From the Brazilian funk of Jorge Ben, to the Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, to the more experimental bands of America like Sonic Youth and Fugazi -As long as it is innovative or has a great melody, it's fair game for being absorbed into his variety of influences.

Colt's main goal for being a musician is to be in his own favorite band. Having teamed up with the other versatile members of Living Room Lava, he believes he is well on his way to achieving that feat.
